I was camping on a beach on the edge of Muscat.
My tent has a seperate rainfly which I don't use.
I have clear views of the night sky and stars through the mosquito netting, which forms all of the tent roof
I often wake up in the early hours and look up at the stars
I have seen plenty of events in the night skies of Oman that I can't explain
I''m no dimwit either - I have 2 science degrees, one of which is a Bachelor of dental surgery
On this occasion
I happened to be looking directly upwards through the fly netting.
I saw a brilliant white flash of light, which in an instant shot off like a bullet in a straight line across the sky
The sun had set behind me, so the direction it moved was SW to NE
in a straight line path which was visible as a brilliant white line or trail blaze
This line or path either ended or my eyes weren't quick enough to follow the moving object
I think it was the former.

What I saw was identical to this except I saw it in the night sky
I can't say what shape the object was
I wasn't aware it was there until it created the flash of light
it was the flash of light that drew my attention to it
The flash of light also obscured whatever it was including it's shape
it was not a shooting star!
shooting stars do not start from a stationary position!
