Post IED strike in Iraq north of Euphrates river.
In 2004 while serving in the Marine Corps on my first combat deployment to Iraq, one of our platoons was ambushed and my platoon was charged with cordoning off the town. At about 0300, my LAV25 was backed up to a dirt road that lead to a power plant, I observed a light that sat on the horizon for a while. After random observation, the light began to rise. It rose to about 200 ft above the horizon I saw, then moved to my right by 1000 ft, up a few hunter feet then back to the left. During this time I had my SAW gunner and vehicle gunner look through the same NVGs I was looking through an none of us could see this object with NVGs but could with the naked eye. They didn't pay any mind to the object but I was intrigued by it because NO military helicopters were in the battle space at the time, not even dust off medivac helicopters. Even if they were, they certainly would NOT fly with this bright light showing. But after about or so minutes, it just disappeared.
