Flashing UFO
At around 8:10pm local time, I was observing the Orion constellation which was directly overhead. It is at that time I noticed a star-like light that appeared quite high, moving silently across the sky.
My initial reaction was that it was a satellite. However, after about 2 seconds the light went off, and then a second later reappeared some distance ahead of where I last saw it. I found this rather unusual for a satellite, as they tend to steadily glide across the night sky without any "flickering."
My second hunch was that it was a plane, though the light appeared to be way too high.
The light then went off again, only for it to reappear a second later a distance before where I last saw it. It is at this point I noticed that the light was not travelling in a straight line. Also unusual for a plane (not to travel in a straight line).
The light had a flickering pattern; it was on for 2 seconds, and off for 1 second.
It then went off for the third time, to again reappear a further distance from where it last went off. The light again appeared on and off severally, about 7 to 8 times.
It seemed to be moving randomly "up and down" but it was headed east from west. It had moved a significant distance (well away from the Orion constellation) from the first time I saw it, until it completely disappeared. I searched the night sky for about 20 minutes, but I did not see the light again.
