{tjd} ufo hovered over me, after a length of time, a jet liner came into the area, and the ufo streaked away to the east
I was delivering newspapers in West Des Moines Iowa in the summer of 1966. One morning at approx 4 am, as I was standing at the intersection of 6th and Grand, I looked up, and a solid red, round object was hovering above me at a height of approx 500 feet. It made no sound at all.
I was so scared that I didn't know what to do for several minutes. I decided to ignore it and hope it would go away. (I was only 10 years old at the time)
I started south on 6th street, and after what seemed like just a few minutes, I heard the sound of a airliner coming in on the flightpath of the Des Moines airport. I looked up and saw the airliner, and also observed the ufo still above me.
The ufo then took off at a high rate of speed to the east, just above the treeline.
The more I have thought about this incident, the more I believe there was a gap of time missing from when I first observed the ufo, to when it flew away. Do airliners normally come into the Des Moines airport at 4AM? It doesn't seem likely in 1966. I just don't remember what time I got home that morning, to compare to a usual day.
I had seen the ufo once before about 2 weeks earlier. I was over the eastern horizon, but seemed to be observing me. This was approx 3:30 AM.
